Mastering the Dot: Level 1
Use your dot to its full potential!
Service Description
Our red dot course focuses on optimizing your shooting accuracy with a California Police Officer Standards of Training, Red Dot certified instructor. We'll begin with a couple hours of lecture on different dot options, the importance of a quality dot, a review of durability testing, how to mount a dot with or without plates, and a review of real world studies on shooting efficacy with dots vs. iron sights, and talk about point shooting vs. aimed shots. Then we'll hit the range and sight our your dots to 25 yards. Next we'll check your freestyle grip technique to ensure consistency, which is essential for effective dot acquisition and deployment. Then we'll prove the efficacy of dot shooting over point shooting by trying them both from the ready position. This will debunk common myths surrounding point shooting, providing you with a deeper understanding of effective shooting practices. Finally, we'll teach you dry fire and live fire drills to continue your "quiet eye" practice as you work to master the basic skillset of dot presentation and acquisition. Things you'll need: A pistol with a securely mounted dot optic and 400 rounds of ammunition. (If you're dot shoots loose because of improper mounting and you cannot fix it yourself quickly, we cannot stop the class.) Electronic hearing protection Eye protection Water Sunblock A holster that has a hard guard covering the trigger, allows pistol deployment without breaking a 180 degree field around your body as you face square to the target, and doesn't require you to muzzle yourself on deployment. Additionally you'll need to be able to deploy your firearm with one hand. Unsafe holstering practices will not be allowed and will result in expulsion from the class. In practice, a safe holster means a holster mounted at the 12 o'clock (the fly of your jeans) to about the 3 o'clock position (your hip). You can turn this around if you're left handed. Holsters that don't work: Shoulder holsters, chest rigs, small of the back, thigh rigs, and serpa holsters requiring a button press over the trigger guard. Ask if you have questions. Inside or outside the waistband holsters are fine within the above listed conditions This is not a holster class. If you are inexperienced with holster use or fundamental accuracy, please contact us and we'll set you up with the necessary training for you experience level.
